Alt-Med proponent’s true colours shine through and it ain’t pretty

I wrote this short post last week asking readers to vote in the Shorty Awards for the Skeptic Zone’s Dr Rachael Dunlop.  It was a bit of fun, a chance to stick it to the Natural Health proponents who preach against medicine in an attempt to line their own pockets.  To my pleasant surprise Dr Rachie managed to knock Natural News Editor Mike Adams and is currently fending off Dr Mercola a famous Alt Med doctor(one who has amazingly got medical training).

Now lets not kid ourselves the Shorty’s are a bit of a popularity contest if you produce good content, and people like you, you’re going to have a shot at winning.  In the greater scheme of things its really not that important.

So you would think that such Natural Health businessmen as Mike Adams and Dr Mercola would take losing in their stride(if indeed they do lose).  It’s what I would expect of professionals or at least of savvy business people.

Sadly, that’s not what happened.

First, upon starting to lose Mike Adams or perhaps  one or more his supporters attempted to game the voting system by registering new twitter accounts and voting for his @healthranger account.  This was explicitly against the rules.  The situation got so bad that he was disqualified (not something I entirely agree with).

Not content to let things go he tweeted that he was going to sue the organisers of the Shorty’s.

Shorty Awards exposed as rigged contest; all NaturalNews reader votes deleted

I feel I must ask the question who stands gain more by winning a self promoting natural health product business man who doesn’t like to tell you about his magic products until you sign up to his news letter or a cell biologist that investigates pseudoscience and quackery as a hobby.

But then he really “spat the dummy” writing a Strawman filled post attacking skeptics in

What ‘skeptics’ really believe about vaccines, medicine, consciousness and the universe

I really didn’t think it could get much worse, considering the profile of the two parties mentioned above, where image is a large part of their game.  I was surprised then to read this sort of stuff coming from Dr Mercola.

An arrogant group of science bloggers that have vilified me for the past few years have started a campaign to have an Australian shill to win a health award on Twitter. This overweight non-physician has arrogantly bashed nearly every alternative therapy and encourages reliance on drugs.
She is Big Pharma’s wet dream. If you want a real laugh to see just how ridiculous some of her positions are you can go to her site http://scepticsbook.com/

Mercola

Lovely little bit of language from the “respected” Doctor.  Not only does he appear to be a little nutty,he’s also a sexist pig( a point on which a couple of his female followers agree with me).

So now Mike Adams fans will be flocking to vote for Mercola, which they are entitled to do.  Lets just hope they don’t register twitter accounts and get Mercola booted as well – I for one couldn’t stand the whining.

And not to be outdone by the Alt-Med leadership some of their followers descended new lows with one person labelling Dr Rachie a Big Pharma whore ( what is it with these sexual overtones) and another calling for Skeptics to be lined up and shot.

The question that Mercola and Adams should be asking themselves is whether their actions are likely to turn away customers…clients or change peoples minds.

PS Many thanks to the skeptics who took screenshots ie @drunkenmadman,
