The Australian reports that:
The school principal and two senior Catholic Education officials connected to the child sex abuse case in a Toowoomba school have been sacked
Some may question if this is enough. Indeed one of my commenters in this post raised the possibility of deregistering any teaching staff involved Surely none of the three that were sacked should be allowed to work with children again until they have undergone some retraining.
It is also heartening to note that those continuing with the civil litigation are refusing to partake of the church’s clandestine response to dealing with sexual abuse cases, they have refused to sign confidentiality agreements.
Parents of children suing the Catholic Church over child sex abuse allegations on southern Queensland’s Darling Downs say they will not sign any confidentiality agreements when the matter is settled.

The parents’ lawyer Damian Scattini says the church needs to be held accountable.
“This church has to learn, it has to stop somewhere and that’s what the parents are interested in and we think, as do they, that sunshine is the best disinfectant and we’re going to have an open hearing and we’re going to ventilate these things and the church has just got to stop this behaviour,” he said.
So for once a rather just outcome, will the church learn?
Not from past experience…but there is always hope.

Why on earth is the catholic churge tasked with educating Australian children? Surely, any organisation that touts creationism, talking snakes etc. surely is not blessed with the intellect to educate our kids. Now, they come with the added bonus of child sexual abuse. AND…they don't pay tax!!!!

I really don't think the Catholic Church teaches creationism. I am not Catholic, but taught a 3 week stint in a Catholic school, part of which involved teaching evolution. And what is this about talking snakes?
Not evangelical creationism no. I have attended and taught at catholic schools the position of the church I think would be termed theistic evolution – they are required to teach evolutionary theory, though its clear to me that their position was god set evolution in motion. I have heard of evangelicals infiltrating schools and pursuing a harder line though.
EVERYthing is somewhere in the bible, including talking snakes. (Genesis)
