In a segment Freshly Doug, hosted by Doug Pots, Mercy Ministries closure gets a mention on the tail end of a report about the Australian Senate’s failure to condemn Uganda’s Kill Homosexuals Bill.
Sometimes I wonder what sort of people we have sitting in Canberra. While I expect religious twats like Senator Fielding to oppose homosexuality, I expect all politicians to have respect for human life.
Quite frankly this makes me feel ill.

My reading of Hansard is that the motion was not passed on a technicality – the Senate not being the appropriate place to raise such a motion (under Australian parliamentary rules). I think what's meant to happen is that Hanson-Young should lobby the government outside the Senate to make a statement which would then carry diplomatic cred (and then Uganda government would prob get shirty over it and it kick up a fuss which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing). Not sure but I think the House of Reps can make a motion but as hasn't happened, maybe not. Of course, our pollies (all sides) could make statements outside of parliament and have not – guess there aren't enough votes in it?
I did a search of the Greens website – there doesn't seem to be mention of anything about Uganda there. Indeed unless I have missed the news reports I don't recall hearing anything about it on the news either. SMH had a piece about France's condemnation. Nothing in the Australian. All very quiet on the home front.=/
