Who says you can’t herd Cats?

Well maybe it’s early days yet, but this just from twitter regarding the Rise of Atheism Conference in March 2010.

@atheistcon: Expressions of interest in Melbourne Atheist Convention far exceeded expectations. MCEC booked for 2,500

I see this as good news.  Now while it’s not paid registrations I am, how you say, “Cautiously Optimistic”.   See, when it comes to religion Aussies are laid back  Actually when it comes to anything but sport we are pretty laid back.

Unfortunately when it comes to government funded religion we are laid back too.   The Rudd government continues to disappoint with increases in funding to the Exclusive Brethren

THE Federal Government was criticised yesterday for increasing funding for Exclusive Brethren schools to an estimated $62 million over the next four years.

The Government has chosen to continue with the previous government’s controversial funding formula for private schools, which will deliver an additional $24.6 million to the Brethren schools over the next four-year funding cycle, according to budget projections.

All this for a group that subjugates women and does not allow congregants to vote.  A democratic government spending tax dollars on an anti democratic group????
