Countdown to Departure

Anyone who follows my Twitter feed will know that I am in the last stages of packing up my house and moving interstate.  I am 8 days away from leaving the town I grew up in and the house I have jointly owned for 10 years.

I honestly didn’t think I would miss the place as much as I appear to be.  We recently refurbished the house for sale (something that we should have done earlier) and have had precious little time to really appreciate it.  Hard to walk away from a place knowing that all your hard work will go down the drain at the hands of renters – who will have to work two jobs just to pay the extortionate rent in town (‘spose I shouldn’t’ complain – we got what we asked for price wise).

Now the town has been a bit of a mixed blessing.  I have never been out of work in town, its been good to me in that sense.  Social problems are increasing though, the most recent being the murder of an aboriginal man by 5 white hoons.  There’s a uranium mine coming.

Yet still it is familiar and everything is close and comfortable.

Any suggestions on things to do on my last days in Alice (provided we are all packed)?
