Thanks

I don't think we have the competence in our politicians to go toward statehood yet :D. I just find it funny its like we are celebrating our sweet sixteen, like we are being told we are all grown up but we are not

Good post!
Backyard fireworks (or round my neighbourhood, out in the scrub fireworks) on Territory Day do seem to be a hotly defended "part of the Territory lifestyle". As we this Friday & Saturday, thank goodness for the utter magnificence of professional pyrotechnical displays each night of the Alice Springs Show. Safer, quieter. And my roof and garden will remain charcoaled-debris free. :)

As for your comments on the federal government being able to veto or walk over the NT government, you have a point. Personally I doubt whether the NT gov't is ready to go down the robust path of statehood - the NT relies far too heavily upon federal funding for so much. Not sure how it would work without the federal umbrella. Having worked within the NT Health Dept, I have to say not only is the funding complicated, it's downright scary. However, it does have it's advantages: Alice hospital has a most magnificent intensive care unit. Not bad for a regional town. But, I do believe the long term aim of the NT gov't should be for true self-government and statehood.

Ours will be on the fourth of July. Dogs go nuts and I can imagine how my cats will freak out. Wait....they may be used to the sounds of gunfire....I mean, fireworks! :O
