  • Very important video. Thanks.

    Extremely important video!

The begining of the trend by some parents not to get their children immunised not only puts their own children at risk of acquiring some very "old" diseases but it puts all children at risk.

Polio has been eradicated in Australia, but doing that required a "hit rate" of vaccination of 70-80% and some decades of persistence. Measels and some of the other diseases are so virulent that they require >95% of kids to be vaccinated – we have a loong way to go with those.

Now kids are so healthy that parents are becoming complacent or opting not to vaccinate their kids due to the perceived risks, not realising, due to the lack of first hand experience that the risk of acquiring the diseases is much much greater.

About a year ago there was an outbreak of pertasus (whooping cough) in Australia. Can you imagine anything more horrifying than seeing your baby cough him or herself to death? – I cried for both the babies and the parents when I saw the stories – Yet pertasus is entirely preventable.

    Awesome blog Sean!

  • Thanks for the vote of appreciation. A child died last month of whooping cough in NSW because a) it was too young to be vaccinated and b) vaccination rates in the area were low. Both myself and my sister caught whooping cough in our teens, it was incapacitating as a robust teen I can only imagine what it dos to a child
