Divorce does lead to greater use of resources, 2 people now using 2 homes, instead of one, and everything that goes along with that. It may be better if people didn't get divorced but that's not always going to happen, and in many cases one of the partners may have no say in the matter. To put a religious spin on it, from what I've read religious people have a higher divorce rate than non-religious people. He does have a point though. As he's no doubt a fine and consistent human being, he clearly now supports divorce, as there is (according to him) no hope in Hell that "living inefficiently" contributes to global warming.
