I shall abstain from commenting on who was King Cnut for now, for I do watch Stil's show & have insider information on the King. I also have a fondness for that particular part of history.
Ungoogled going from memory answer to "Who was King Cnut?":
The (Anglo-Saxon?) king who tried to hold back the tide. Usually misunderstood as an example of hubris and folly, but is really the king demonstrating to his subjects that powerful as he is, his power is naught compared to that of God.
Or he was demonstrating to his courtiers that he was not as great as they were making out. Bloody successful King though
