Easter Offensive – Awakening.org.au

easter2009flyer2I caught an advertisement for Awakening tonight on prime time television.

Now I realise its coming up to easter and that its a special time for people who believe in a two thousand year old myth.

What I object to in this particular case was the use shared community suffering over the victorian bushfires to push a Christian agenda(this is made quite obvious in the TV ad).  I might go as far as to say that the organisers of this event, while less obvious than Danny Nalliah are just as guilty of using suffering to swell their ranks.

This campaign is not about the community coming together, in a sense of rebirth and hope, its about pushing a myth and pushing christian ideology and belief.

I could stomach an event that extended to all faiths and philosophies, but this is about reinforcing christian privilege.

And  what are we doing celebrating an age old fertility festival at the wrong time of year in the wrong hemisphere anyway?

I'd like to know how a bunch of christians walking about makes "visible" the "reality of the resurrection".

Is Jesus planning on marching too? That would make for some great telly.

This has long been a complaint of mine. I like the idea of marking the passing of the seasons (such as they exist in Queensland), and you don't have to be a 'believer' to do so. But we do everything arse-about-face down here.

Although despite the inappropriate timing, the alcohol-consumption and wild ( usually unplanned), Bacchanalian revelry that usually take place at mine around Easter is probably as good a way to pay tribute to the festival's roots as any.

    Pun semi-intentional.

So it's Easter at Morphine's place then.

If they are pushing the suffering of the bushfire victims to try and garner more followers they should be ashamed of themselves.

Considering Oz's strict import rules on food and drink, I'd like to know how he plans to get past customs. As far as I know, edible zombies aren't usually available in their original sealed packages.
