Dawkins commenting on “The Atheists” via ABC’s Compass

compassFinally the Dawkins interview promised to us by the Compass program is up.  Australian viewers for once know what it feels like to have content only viewable by those with an Aussie IP addresses(that’s to you vjack with your linking to Hulu).

It can be found here

Summary

Dawkins comes across as very pro science in this interview.  He says he

  • is hostile to organised religion
  • is hostile to religion thrust down ones throat.
  • resents a worldview that is false and that has so much influence
  • resents the indoctrination of children with a belief system with no substantiation
  • resents the labelling of children as [insert religion here] children
  • he explains agnosticism  99% unbelief in fairies and gods
  • personally alarmed at the wilful ignorance of science
  • believes that there has been resurgence of religious power
  • religions have a free pass, on ethics and morals
  • religions have free pass on applying for charity status
  • disowns the evangelical atheist moniker
  • states that all he wants is people to think for themselves
  • speaks of the closet atheists that are able to come out because he and others are being vocal

A good little interview if you can view it :)

One thing I did wonder is who do you know on the religious side who is openly fighting for science?  The most prominent I can think of is Kenneth Miller
