I can’t remember when I first heard of Jim Wallace. Perhaps on some talk show as leader of the Australian Christian Lobby where he was presented as a voice of the silent and long suffering Christians in this country (that last bit was sarcasm).
He has become one of the leading proponents of the governments filtering scheme.
So who is he?
- Former commander of Australia’s SAS and special forces Brigadier Jim Wallace
- Served in Vietnam
- Executive chairman of the Australian Christian Lobby.
Why should we care?
Essentially he is a tactical threat. He is well spoken and articulate, in addition to being quite willing to mislead the general public – ie Internet Filtering. He and the organization he leads purport to be a non-denominational lobby group. They are however heavily supported by the evangelical churches and push a very conservative christian agenda.
He has recently come out in response to Obama overturning the Mexico City policy, pleading with the Australian government to hold true to its current policy of not funding over aid groups that include abortion or abortion information in their listed services. Check out the linked article, dripping with sanctimony.
I think we deserve to know a little bit more about this Christian leader, his thinking and his connections with Christian politics.
Will keep you posted.

My fiance in college was named Jim Wallace. Ugh! He didn't look nearly as Bill-Gates-ish and I'm sure he'd hate the whole idea of internet filtering. Nope. No Doppleganger there.
Yes it is a fairly common name, as a wiki search will attest
The problem with banning porn is the "forbidden fruit" syndrome: The more you try to control something, the more people will want to do it. The years of prohibition in the states to ban alcohol is a good history lesson.
That said, I am not advocating for anarchy. Every time the government attempts to ban or control something, it has to take into the overall impact on society, and no based on a bunch of clueless, religious idiots trying to convert us into their religious flock.

How about a ban on war for a change? Especially illegal wars based on blatant lies:-)
It's worth reading Wallace on Iraq, back when keeping Australia at war was an even higher priority for this deeply Christian man than saving us from a free web – http://sydwalker.info/blog/2009/01/29/australias-holy-man-likes-a-good-war/” target=”_blank”>Australia’s Holy Man likes a Good War
Concentrating on abortion first, but it will be interesting to contrast this stance, with the concept of killing people in an illegal military action
You can't ban wars, but wars based on nothing more than a wing and a prayer should be banned.
> You can't ban wars
It may be beyond the imagination of many in this generation, but it wasn't beyond the imagination of some of our forbears. For instance, check out this proposal put to the UN General Assembly by JFK in 1961.
If that's of interest, try this article too.
Man must put an end to wars or wars will put an end to mankind. John F. Kennedy
