Y'know. Every adult they know persists in telling them Santa Claus is real, but eventually they add up their own observations of the evidence and conclude that Santa Claus is NOT real. In defiance of everything they've been told. Once they come to that conclusion, adults can accept they've reached a point where they have their own judgment and are ready to be trusted with other truths about reality. I think as such it can be a useful meme. My parents didn't use it--Dad because (he told us) he hated the idea of lying to his kids, Mom because (I suspect) she had put two and two together and realized that what we could conclude about Santa Claus, we could just as easily conclude about God.
