in voicing their disgust of free speech and open debate on the subject of God’s existence.
Yesterday the following motion was made in the UK Parliament:
That this House notes that posters with the slogan `There’s Probably No God. Now Stop Worrying and Enjoy Your Life’, appear on 800 buses in England, Scotland and Wales, as well as on the London Underground; notes that this causes concern to Christian and Muslim people, many of whom feel embarrassed and uncomfortable travelling on public transport displaying such advertisements and would not wish to endorse the advertisements by using that public transport; regrets that the British Humanist Association backs the campaign; and calls on Ministers responsible for public transport and advertising media to investigate this matter and to seek to remove these religiously offensive and morally unhelpful advertisements. [source]
Ten MP’s have supported this motion.
Uncomfortable and embarrassed. My suggestion is that they can overcome this embarrassment by ignoring the Ad or giving up their stupid beliefs. I am sure pictures of uncovered females offends Muslims too, but I don’t see these MP’s championing that cause.
Or maybe we should let the religious advertise Christian and Muslim beliefs…oh but wait that’s where all this started with advertising linking to a website that threatens hell fire and damnation to unbelievers.
Hat Tip to Nullifidian
PS Apologies to UK readers for the comment “whinging Poms”

As an American I have plenty to feel uncomfortable and embarrassed about. Yet no one has introduced legislation to ban ignorant hicks from sucking down oxygen.

Let them preach, in the end the only thing they do is remind people that the religious and the the preachers aren't infallible, and can be zealous scumbags.
As a pom who supports tolerance, free speech and reason, you were perfectly correct to call these retarded tosspiece 'whinging poms'.
Very glad you took it that way
Anyone remember that teacher at a NSW primary school a fair few years back who got in trouble for telling kids that Santa Clause isn't real? This whole situation kind of reminds me of that.
I wanna take out an ad on a bus telling people that Santa isn't real, so kids shouldn't worry about whether they've been naughty or nice, and just eat the damn cookies themselves.
But then you will be destorying one of the magical conditioning memes that helps perpetuate religion and crass commercialism.
Yeah, but sewing the seeds of chaos and confusion is part of my religion, so it's OK.
No, you're absolutely correct, these gits are indeed whinging poms!
Yes well we come to expect better of our stoic English cousins
definitely whinging! bloody MPs tho ten isn't bad considering the amount a similar motion would have got a few years back
Yes I was thinking 10 's not that many considering the size of the Parliament
whom feel embarrassed and uncomfortable travelling on public transport displaying such advertisements
I can think of a million better reasons why they should feel embarrassed, least of which is riding a bus. If they have an issue with an atheist ad, they should go to my home state of Nevada where our taxi cabs have roof advertisements for strip clubs and brothels.
That's an interesting point. I believe that while these adds were running there was another advertisin a movie that was a bit risque. Not peep out of the Christian Voice crowd though
No offence taken to the whinging Poms statement
I get it from my Aussie partner all the time, haha
I'm glad it's only 10, and hope it won't increase!
Fingers crossed on that one
The whole Santa Claus meme, I thought, was a "maturity test" meant to teach kids to think for themselves. Y'know. Every adult they know persists in telling them Santa Claus is real, but eventually they add up their own observations of the evidence and conclude that Santa Claus is NOT real. In defiance of everything they've been told. Once they come to that conclusion, adults can accept they've reached a point where they have their own judgment and are ready to be trusted with other truths about reality. I think as such it can be a useful meme.
My parents didn't use it–Dad because (he told us) he hated the idea of lying to his kids, Mom because (I suspect) she had put two and two together and realized that what we could conclude about Santa Claus, we could just as easily conclude about God. But I think if I ever breed I might use it on mine.
