Vatican officials have been quick off the ball to criticise the Obama administrations repealling of the “Mexico City Policy“, known also as the global gag rule.
Basically foreign NGO’s recieving American aid could not recieve it if any of the services advocated or supplied information on abortion, as one of the many options that should be open to women.
It’s a political football that has been kicked back and forwards between the Democrats and the Repubicans, Clinton repealled it, Bush brought in back into force, and now Obama has repealled it again. For this act Obama has recieved criticism from Archbishop Rino Fisichella, head of the (rather Owellian entitled) Pontifical Academy for Life. Fisichella said
the repeal of the abortion-funding ban was done with “the arrogance of those who, having power, think they can decide between life and death.” [source]
Perhaps the Cardinal should look in a mirror some time.
The Vatican wants more babies, it doesn’t matter if the are born with aids, doesn’t matter if the child dies because the mother has not got the resources to bring it up. It doesn’ want education on contraceptive use which would negate the need for some abortions.
Are these NGO’s pushing abortions or are they just providing information and safe abortions should women decide that is the best option?
Such a vile and sick doctrine it is that glorifies the unecessary suffering of women and children in an already over populted world.

What so many hysterical screamers about this fail to realize that the funding was cut for ALL services if any of the providers discussed the option of abortion. So, in third world countries, you were denied funding to pass out condoms, supply or discuss birth control drugs (things that PREVENT abortion), discuss STD's, dispel myths such as having sex with virgins cures you from AIDS, et cetera. These places also PROVIDED PRENATAL CARE for those already pregnant.
So many republicans believed this meant we weren't funding abortions out of the country and that was a good thing for them. A fraction of the funding went to abortion. These countries need to lower their birth rates and prevent diseases, but those who believe blastocysts (which have fewer cells than a carrot) are sacred keep butting in. Forget improving poverty, health and quality of life. Let's just send money to the ridiculous hooded pope and disregard human dignity in the process.

From what I have heard from priests so far, condoms are leaky, altar boys have fine asses and STDS are a sign of God's wrath. That's the penalty we have to pay for not paying tithes to the Catholic Church and for criticizing priests and their pederast ways.

It's cringe-worthy indeed. Actually, I have an ex-Muslim now Christian uncle who lives in the United States. My family hasn't seen him in over 30 years (and I haven't ever seen him). I wonder where he stands on this subject.

Yes, keep the tradition of pilfering, rape and pillage alive, albeit in more subtle manners. The Vatican might not be able to initiate full scale Crusades and send whole armies to rid infidels like it used to, but it is still horny and greedy enough to satisfy its own insatiable greed and lust.

The Vatican is against abortion because they see every conception as holy and sacred, actually it extends further than that every sperm and egg is sacred.
Where did you find this information, that the Vatican believes every single sperm and egg is scared? That should be an interesting read.

That's a good point. I think what we have to do, is try and find when it is that life starts. It's only a homicide if you kill a living human.

Can of worms or not. Wouldn't you say that if it's human life we're dealing with, we have an obligation to sort this out first? Sperm and eggs aren't human life. A Christian must believe this, because if God created the human anatomy, then God created a system which gets rid of unused sperm, and kills eggs.
