Pope Benedict gives GodTube the Finger

benedictsays3Well it seems that his arse-Holiness is teaming up with Google to produce his own channel via YouTube.  Reuters had this to say:

The Vatican will soon have its own channel on the video sharing site YouTube where the Catholic faithful or the curious will be able to see Pope Benedict or Church events, a Vatican source said on Saturday.

Because our lives are not saturated with enough religious glurge.

The details of the accord are due to be presented on Friday at a news conference attended by Vatican officials as well as Henrique de Castro, managing director of media solutions for Google, which owns YouTube.

One wonders if google are doing a special deal here? Why do they need to have a meeting? Can’t the pope just register himself?

The question has been asked whether an organization such as the Roman Catholic church, conditioned to issuing Papal edicts and telling the faithful what to do , is ready for an interactive format.   I can only imagine the comment war that would erupt if the  Pope was to comment on

  1. compensation for paedophile priests
  2. abortion
  3. condoms
  4. homosexuality

But then I guess this is what the meeting with Google is about.  How can the Vatican take advantage of you tube without the hassle of having to deal with the community on the community’s terms?

Should we be worried that the Church with its money is involving itself with google?  One wonders what financial arrangements are being considered and what pull Benedict  might have?

And anyway I thought Google was God – conflict much?
