Exorcism used on Eating Disorders say the Voice

It’s heartening to see the Perth Voice reporting on the outrageous excuse for a treatment centre that Mercy purports to be. As mentioned previously Mercy Ministries has already bought property in WA for the purpose of opening a home there so that women won’t have to travel all the way to Sydney to be “spiritually abused”.

The article holds no new information for regular followers for my posts on the Mercy debarcle, but if you are new to the blog and want to spend some time scaring yourself silly I would recommend starting with my last round up post that details the story from start to finish.

(note that the Voice does seem to be mistaken regarding family contact as far as I am aware inmate…I mean clients were only prevented with/from contact with friends)

Yea, I agree, though I've heard of some similar Islamnic institutions to Mercy here in the state. They are even more under the radar than Mercy. I don't judge them 'cause I don't have all the facts.

Yes i suppose the good thing with Mercy is that the story broke fairly well here and we know quite a bit more about them than we other wise would have. I fear with some religious groups there is quite a bit the goes under the radar. e.g. A couple were convicted on rape charges in sydney for trying to exorcise demons out of women using sexual intercourse

A number of reasons – support from some powerful connections federally. They don't openly state that they do exorcisms of course. The cultural leway they are given because they are Christian, if they were Muslim it would be a different matter.

They also do do some good work so it's very hard for people to see in more than black and white, to understand that it is possible to run a program that helps some but destroys others.
