When asked where were you when Obama was elected? I can proudly say Alice Springs Hospital Emergency Department. No it wasn’t over exuberance, exultant joy at American’s seeing a bit of sense. No it was male impatience and stupidity that led me to nearly sever my left thumb (wives will be nodding in understanding here).
The reason I haven’t blogged about this momentous historical(Obama winning) event is that I have been recovering.
I spent 3 hours waiting in the ER after receiving first aid to stop the bleeding. At the end of which I was thinking that the bleeding had stopped and it probably wasn’t as bad as I first thought. When I did get in to see the doctor he started talking about tendon damage and skin grafts, which sounded kind of serious to me. But he and the head surgeon said that they would go with stitches first.
Now some advice, when the doctor offers you more anaesthetic take it.
I had 4 stitches and the first 2 were a breeze, I started to feel a little niggle of pain on the third and when the doctor asked if I wanted another shot, I thought to save time I’d say no and just let him get on with it.
I am still amazed how quickly the anaesthetic wore off on that last stitch. Suddenly watching the doctor stitch wasn’t such a good idea and the fish hook style needle started to feel like one. I felt the blood drain from my face and if I’d not been sitting down I would have fallen.
So posting may be a little slow for a week or so as I recover.
Congrats to America on electing Obama. Let’s hope it makes a difference.
