A hat tip to Peter for this one.
As some of you, especially readers in Sydney, will be aware, World Youth Day is being held in Sydney Australia. I am sure its going to be a hoot – lots of randy, godwinked teens running around having pre-marital sex and surfing the catholic guilt roller coaster ride.
I guess there won’t be any free condoms handed out at this event.
I can’t help but think the federal government is colluding with the church in an attempt to boost the local economy and the growth rate.
Peter has brought to my attention the following site:
From their about us page:
As a pilgrim news-site & campaign for the young people of the world, yBENEDICT is hosted by Towards2008 with the support of Catholic Youth Services (Sydney) and The Catholic Weekly.
From the Wondering Why page:
The site has two principal aims – to provide resources for those interested in registering, promoting and preparing for World Youth Day 2008, and to provide daily reports on the latest WYD news from across Sydney, Australia and the world. (
If you are wondering why all the ‘Ys’ there are a few reasons: firstly, the Y stands for you – the site is a service to the pilgrims of the world. Secondly the Y stands for ‘young’ which describes the age and spirit of our site. Thirdly, the Y stands for ‘Generation Y’ a label often used to describe those aged from about 18-35 years old. Finally the letter ‘Y’ stands for the question WHY? This final ‘questioning sense’ in some way touches all people, regardless of their religion proposing the deeper spiritual question ‘WHY are things as they are?’
Our yBENEDICT web site and our yBENEDICT team will thus try to provide answers to some of these questions whether they be as simple as ‘Why is the Pope coming’ and ‘When will he say Mass’ to slightly more complex questions like ‘Why do we need a Pope anyway’ and ‘What is the Mass?’
To get the best of yBENEDICT be sure to subscribe to yDAILY and see you in Sydney for WYD2008.
The question that should be asked of Benedict and the Catholic church, so bent on being cool and hip and in with the kiddies is:
or
or
There is only one thing the catholic church cares about and that is the preservation of its power and place in society and for that it requires the youth of the world.
Generation Y should ask why? Why indeed? Just don’t be fooled by the pat answers.
Generation Y needs its collective head read if it falls for this tripe.

Benedict: Major Stamp Rant.
Ever think how strange looking HE is?
I also think that the CC really needs to generate interest for the church by the young as well as gather new members, without money, their business will die.
Note that someone has registered ybenedict.com which points to child abuse web sites while Catholic Church registered ybenedict.org
ybenedict.com seems to go a different site than http://www.ybenedict.com
Donna,
Some have compared him to the Emperor in Star Wars. He has the whole crazy old German thing going.
Poodles,
I sincerely hope they continue on their current path
Peter,
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Sean:
Your blog always makes me giggle.
And Donna… he is pretty effing strange looking.
I kinda “hate” to say it, but when I first saw whom the cardinals had
elected as “Pope”, I thought “There’s something about that guy that looks strange/dishonest/”shifty”…
If he’s hiding/condoning ANY kind
of pedaphilia, THAT’s it, maybe even other “stuff”. Anyone call
tell themselves and others lies long enough that “self” begins to believe it…
Kinda makes one wonder what else is being covered up. My husb., whom is catholic (and a “liberal” one, I guess) says congregants &/or
converts are down, that’s why for
some time, the “Church” has been finding ways to “accept” divorced
persons when they remarry to Catholics. Um, like I did. (We had to get a Marriage Tribunal to
“annul” my 1st marriage so I, a Protestant, could marry a Catholic in a Catholic ceremony.
Husb. says ALOT of the pedaphile baloney could’ve been avoided it the “Church” would just allow the
priests to be married, like the Episcopalians do…
AF,
I am glad my writing provokes such a good response.
Donna,
Recently a friend of one of the girls in the bookstore had a friend who was 10 days out from a wedding. One of the partners had a previous relationship which had been annulled, but the new bishop rejected put his foot down and refused to et them marry in the church – 10 days out.
So they got married at a restaurant.
WYD was great. I love Pope Benedict.
