Post Frequency – How much is too much?

images I have been experimenting with Windows Live writer and the ability to schedule posts ahead of time(this will be great when I go away on holidays).

When I am inspired I can write 2-3 posts in a session and on some days I just need to give the computer a break.

I have been scheduling the posts so that you get one a day – sometimes you’ll get two if I have a hot topic to post about.

Some bloggers like Hermant bang out about 6-7 in a day.  This frequently results in me scanning through his post titles in my reader to see if they will interest me.

My question to you dear readers is, what is your preference for posts?

Feel free to answer in comments or contact me at sbwright at gmail.com

IMVHO I cannot keep up with bloggers who post more than once or twice a day – my daily reads are many and frequent so one -two posts a day is sufficient for me :)

  • elianara

    I second that.

I have many daily reads I subscribe to, so one or two posts are just fine, then I have time to actually read them, not just scan trough them with one eye.

I read you via Bloglines. It isn’t realtime, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s famine-then-feast, as long as you keep going.

    I vote with Pam.

    PD,

when I went on holidays for 2 weeks I had over 500 poosts to read when I got back and frequently I have to skim through titles (but never yours).

    Elianara,

    Thanks for dropping in.

    Anonymous,

Thanks to you also. I use google reader myself cause its easy. What are the advantages of bloglines?

It’s funny, it depends on who the blog belongs to. I usually stick to just the blogs that are posted on my site.
Hemant has so many people that comment there, I usually don’t bother commenting. I only go there once in awhile. He is a good blogger but I prefer just a few posts to read also, on any one blog. I’m more of a reader than a poster. :)

I agree with Tina, it depends on the blog. But more than one or two a day unless they are short can be too much.

But I will always read Sean no matter what. :)

There seems to be a chicken-and-egg relationship between post frequency and readership. Hemant has a large readership and so can afford to post 6 or 7 times a day. I have a tiny readership; therefore many of my posts would be wasted if I was as prolific as Hemant. On the other hand, I need to post frequently enough to retain the readership I have.

If you think you have a decent enough amount of regular readers, Sean, you can probably afford to post more than once a day.

I like the personal posts the best. Like your vacation photo’s of you and your wife and stuff like that. I really liked the one about the ants…

  • ozatheist

I prefer 1 a day, unless something very important or topical comes up, then 2 is fine.
Like yourself, and your readers, I have quite a few blogs in my feeder so it’s hard to keep up if there are multiple posts in one day.

  • pussreboots

One or two posts a day is a good amount. More posts than that and I’ll skim through them but not necessary read every single one.

  • Donna

Haha! You are right, again. She & I are a voting bloc of 2. YOU know there’s only about 1 thing we
don’t agree on, and that doesn’t stand in the way of being related!!

    Poodles,

    ditto.

    AV,

I reckon that I only have on average about 60 readers a day. I’ll be be keeping to the one post a day format might even stretch it out to every two days.

  • ozatheist

    a question Sean,
you say you schedule your posts, something I did for the first time today so I didn’t post twice in the one day, what time do you schedule your posts for, and do you think it matters?

    OZ,

It’s not something I have given too much thought to to tell you the truth.

Usually it’s the same time as my computer clock. I guess that if you can determine when most of your audience visits you might want to have it coincide with their reading habits. But when a lot of us use readers, perhaps it’s not that important?
