I Don’t believe in Atheists…

story Is the title of a book by Chris Hedges.  Thanks to Micki for pointing out an interview with the author at Salon.

Chris has been quite successful with his book American Fascists, which targets the American Christian Right.  His current foray seems to leave a little bit to be desired with claims that the book is poorly researched and erects strawmen caricatures of the new Atheists, Hawkins, Harris and Dawkins.

And what is it with these terms being bandied about like Judeo-Christian, Neo Atheism.  Is it unspeak?

I don’t believe I will buy this book.

  2. Sean the Blogonaut F.C.D. says:

    Neither do I

  3. Plonka says:

I don’t think I’ll buy it, but I wouldn’t mind reading it. I find I just can’t give a book the bollicking it deserves if I haven’t read it.

    I can wait though….;)

  4. Donna says:

Guys- my husb. asked me what “bollocks”(?) means- I told him I “THINK” it’s slang for “male
    body parts”— ?????????

How would you “nicely” put, what that means????

  5. T&A says:

    From the Amazon review:

“Hedges identifies the pillars of the new atheist belief system, revealing that the stringent rules and rigid traditions in place are as strict as those of any religious practice.”

Did I miss some meeting or something? I didn’t get the rules and traditions….

    Donna: The family jewels.

  7. Psychodiva says:

LOL family jewels about covers it :)

I don’t believe I will buy it either- rather waste my money on something useful like bath bubbles ;)

And maybe we missed a memo or something about the catechisms and commandments we have to follow? could we perhaps send this guy a dictionary with the meaning ‘religion’ highlighted in bright green so he can’t miss it?

I think he is simply writing for profit. A rushed book to cash in on the huge numbers of people he pissed off in his first book.

  9. Protium says:

Sorry Sean a bit OT (or is it)

What’s Angie Harts new album like. I love her voice. One of my favourite covers is her band Frente’s version of New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triange”

Bollocks is English slang for testicles but is also an old term
Talking bollocks means Talking rubbish or misleading the truth
In 19th century England Talking bollocks was a euphemism for things (anything)said by a priest. This won the court case in the 70’s for the sex pistols after complaints of their album
    Never mind the Bollocks.
