There’s a Fundy in our Dance group

We had a barbeque for our Ballroom dance group at one of the members houses. It was cold so I wore my ATHEIST pullover. Towards the end of the night I ended up chatting with one of the members and through our discussion found that the he was a Christian (not suprising, most of the group are catholic and we dance at a catholic school).

As the conversation wore on and we traded out thoughts and arguements(it was all very civil) I experienced a chill. The person I was talking to was a school teacher, tech studies and expressed the following:

  • Anti Jewish & Anti Islamic sentiment
  • Believed Christianity was the one true religion
  • Believed in prophecy

What worried not his arguments (for they were run of the mill) but his calm demeanor his, ability to keep his ridculous beliefs under control.

I mentioned the conversation to my mother ( a church going catholic) who works as a teacher’s aid at a local catholic school – she metioned that she had come across similar views voiced by one particular teacher there.

She said the doctirne he was esposing reminded her of her youth and fire and brimstone teaching by Nuns – she had even thought about talking to the co-ordinator.

Now it has to be concerning when your views on Christianity can unsettle a catholic
